Covid-19 Advice


Update 15/7/2020


Having done a further assessment based on the Scottish Government's changes and looking at the risks to our clients and staff in our practices, we are making the following additional changes:
From 13th July:

  • All appointments will now be made as an onsite appointment. This includes all routine work that has previously been postponed.
  • We will still offer telephone/video consults to those who are at risk or shielding, but the RCVS will be reviewing remote prescribing at the beginning of August, so this is likely to be reviewed then.
  • For clients bringing animals in for appointments, you will be able to enter the practice and make a card payment at the reception desk. Clients MUST wear a mask on entering the practice (as made compulsory by the Scottish Government) and use the hand sanitiser provided, before using our card machines. If you have a medical condition that prohibits you from wearing a mask, please let us know when making your appointment, so we can adjust our procedures accordingly.


In addition to the above, from 6th August:

  • Clients who are bringing in animals for appointments and procedures will be able to wait in the waiting room and accompany their animals into the consult rooms. Clients must observe social distancing and wear a mask at all times. Please take direction from our veterinary team.
  • A minimum of 2 clients at one time will be able to be in the practice and only 1 client per animal should attend. There will be a 1 out, 1 in policy.
  • Please be directed by our veterinary team who will advise you on our procedures.
  • Medication ordering, pickup and payments remain as they are for the moment.
  • Card payments only.

The above will be reviewed again in line with the Scottish Government and our governing bodies.
We understand this has been a difficult time for our clients and their pets and we thank you again for your consideration and patience. These restrictions are difficult for us all and these assessments are done taking into account our own small practice environment and small number of staff, to maximise the safety of our staff and our clients.




Update 29/6/2020

As the Scottish Government begins to ease the lockdown further, we have assessed what, if any changes, we are able to make in our practice. Legally we are required to risk assess our practice environment to make sure we keep both our clients and our staff, as safe as possible.
After this assessment , due to the small size of our practice and small number of staff, we are unable to safely allow clients into the practice normally at this time.
The only exception to this, having assessed animal and staff safety, is to have your pets dropped off inside the practice for admissions and appointments. There is a dog lead hook inside our reception area for you to attach your dog lead to, and cat baskets can be placed in this area. Our staff will direct and help you.
We ask all clients wear a mask when coming into the practice, unless you have a health condition where you are advised not to. Please advise the staff when making your appointment if this is the case. Please note, clients will not be able to remain in the reception area whilst their animal is seen.

We will be reviewing again before the 13th of July.



Update 29/5/2020

As the Scottish Government announces the first phase to exit lockdown, we have assessed what it means for our practice.
Very little is changing for us during this phase. We are still risk assessing every case either by video or telephone. As our workload has increased and the restrictions have eased slightly, we are now no longer able to offer our medication delivery service. We now have scheduled pick up times at the practice.
Neutering: We are not likely to be doing routine neutering until the Scottish Government announces we are in "Phase 3" of the lockdown exit, unless our veterinary surgeons have done a risk assessment and advised that it should be done before that. The consultation cost incurred in these circumstances will be taken off any future neutering costs.


Update 01/5/2020

During this human health crisis there are many animals that have missed preventative treatments and vaccinations. We have been in contact with all our clients who have been affected by this and prioritised making appointments for June onwards.

Update 14/4/2020
Both the Scottish and UK Government reinforced this week how vital it is in this unprecedented public health crisis, that people stay at home to save lives. We are told we have not reached the peak of this virus outbreak and social distancing and lockdown measures may continue for some time.

On the 9th of April we received updated guidance from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the British Veterinary Association that certain vaccinations could resume if risk assessed on an individual case basis. After a discussion with our clinical veterinary team and after having consulted with vaccine manufacturers and considering potential disease risks in our area, we have decided that, at this point, we are unable to begin offering this service again, as we believe that this does not reflect the current guidance given by the government*. We plan to review this alongside the Scottish and UK government advice regularly.

We understand how frustrating this must be for people whose pets are due vaccinations imminently and if you have any concerns regarding the wellbeing of your pet, please contact us at the practice where we will be happy to speak to you about your individual circumstances. Vaccinations can be booked in our diaries now for 6-8 weeks time (subject to government guidelines).

Your pet's welfare is extremely important to us and we continue to provide care to emergency and urgent cases, remote consultations and repeat medication and delivery services.

Update 10/4/2020
The BVA have recently updated their guidelines on what is classed as "Essential Veterinary Care". We will be reviewing this alongside the continued social distancing directions from the government and will update you further next week.

Update 3/4/2020
Our delivery service is now up and running for your repeat medications and food. If your pet requires any flea or worm treatment, we are now able to dispense and deliver these. Please contact the practice for further details.


Update 26/3/2020
As we have had further direction from the government and our governing bodies, we have been working hard to put emergency measures in place over the last few days. Thank you for your patience.

Whilst we appreciate these restrictions are difficult for us all to adapt to, this is a very difficult time for all of us who work in the veterinary industry. As vet practices, our jobs have always been about protecting animal health and welfare. During this unprecedented global human health crisis, we now find ourselves in a position where it is our main duty and priority to do everything we can to protect human health, particularly those in our community who are most at risk.

ALL veterinary practices are doing what they can to absorb these new restrictions and put in place services to continue to try and support their clients.
With things everchanging, some will be struggling to put these in place as quickly as others, but we all, practices and clients alike, have a social responsibility to mitigate the risk to others and try to slow the spread of this devastating disease.
These conditions will be in place for the next 3 weeks, when they will be reassessed based on further direction from the government. We will update you again.
Should you need any further advice on any of the below, please contact our staff who will be happy to help you.

Before attending the practice for ANY reason, you will be asked these 5 public health questions:
o Have you or anyone in your household been diagnosed with COVID 19?
o Are you and your household self-isolating?
o Do you or anyone in your household have a cough, a fever or shortness of breath?
o Are you in a higher risk category? (Over 70, anyone with an underlying health condition, pregnant)
o Have you or a member of your household returned from abroad in the last 14 days?

The practice will give you direction and advice, should you answer yes to any of these questions.

• No routine appointments will be seen at the practice. We suggest you call back in 3 weeks when we hope the situation will have improved. If in any doubt please contact us, but these will include:
o Boosters and any vaccinations. For any puppy and kitten vaccinations we advise you keep your pets protected, inside and away from other animals. If your pet is in the middle of a course done at our practice, it may need to be restarted. This will be done again free of charge.
o Neutering Surgery.
o Weigh and Worming and Weight Check Appointments.
o Anal Gland Emptying.
o Nail Clips.
o Routine Dentistry.
We have been endeavouring to contact all clients who have these routine appointments already booked, but if you have an appointment that falls into one of the categories above, please call the practice. If you do turn up for a routine appointment or procedure, we will not be able to see you.

Emergency Advised On-site Appointments:
OUR PRACTICE DOORS WILL REMAIN LOCKED AT ALL TIMES. NO CLIENTS ARE ALLOWED INTO PRACTICE. PLEASE TAKE DIRECTION FROM OUR STAFF. There are clear marked areas to maintain safe zones for you and our staff’s safety. These must be observed at all times.
o If you are attending for an emergency advised on-site appointment, when you arrive in readiness for your appointment time, please inform reception that you have arrived by telephoning the practice.
o Once the vet is ready, they will open the locked doors. PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FROM OUR STAFF. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR MOBILE PHONE WITH YOU.
o Clients will not be allowed in the practice and at all time should stand behind the marked areas outside, to maintain the safe space from our staff.

Medication and Re-examination Checks, Repeat Prescription Ordering and Flea and Worm Treatment:
• Repeat Medications and Food:
o Due to supply and delivery demands on our suppliers, please order your medications and food in plenty of time. At present there is at least a 72-hour delay from order to delivery, with some medications, (particularly human medicines) being longer. To maintain supplies at this difficult time, 1 months’ supply is being given.
o To support the government guidelines and prevent putting other people at risk, during these 3 weeks we have put a repeat medication and food delivery service in place. This is £3.98 more than our previous local delivery fee at £10, which will cover staff time, petrol and personal protection equipment. For clients who sadly have to have their pets euthansised and have chosen to have a private cremation, this will be free of charge.

• Flea and Worm Treatments:
o NO FLEA AND WORM TREATMENTS ARE BEING DISPENSED IN THE NEXT 3 WEEKS. We had previously attempted to post out routine treatments and medications, but due to the postal demands at the moment, many are not receiving them.
o If you are one of our Pet Healthcare clients, please contact the practice who can advise you.

• Medication Checks:
o During the next 3 weeks, all 2,3 and 6 month medication checks will be done via a telephone consultation. The 6 month physical medication checks are being postponed only and will need to be rescheduled once this public health crisis is over.
o We are hoping to have a video “telemedicine” service up and running very soon. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.

Changes to the Payment Process:
o Card payments only. All payments will be done over the phone.
o If your pet has been advised by our staff to have an emergency on-site appointment on the same day, a consultation fee will be charged on scheduling and this must be paid over the phone before attending. As further treatment may be required, payments will be required after your animal has been assessed and before any medications can be released.
We realise these are difficult times for all our clients and we hope you understand these measures are unavoidable, if we are to continue to provide you with veterinary services for your pets during this global health crisis.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 23/3/2020
Due to the stricter measures announced by the government and a request for more enforced "social distancing" to reduce the spread of this disease, we are making some changes to our practice environment and service. To enable us to try and continue to maintain a veterinary service to you and your pets, the following changes are required. Please be aware, these are not optional, and all clients must comply with these requirements.

• Non- Appointments e.g food and medication pick up:
o Please contact the practice prior to picking up your medication as all medication, food etc must be paid for before you come to pick them up.

If you are not able to attend, please pay for the medications over the phone and ask someone else to pick up these medications. If you are in the “at risk” group for coronavirus, please speak to the practice to see if you qualify for our home delivery service.
o Our staff will ask you to provide a pickup time so we know when you are arriving.
o Please call the practice on arrival.
o Please maintain the safe zone from the practice door. Our staff will place your food or medications outside and you may then retrieve them.

• Changes to the Payment Process:
o Card payments only. All payments will be done over the phone prior to attending the practice where possible.
o If your pet has been advised by our staff to have an emergency on-site appointment, a consultation fee will be charged on scheduling and this must be paid over the phone before attending. As further treatment may be required, please make sure you bring a mobile phone with you, as payments will be required after your animal has been assessed and before any medications can be released.

Medication and Re-examination Checks, Repeat Prescription and Flea and Worm Treatment Ordering:
• Medication Checks:
o During this public health crisis, all 2,3 and 6 month medication checks will be done verbally over the telephone, unless directed otherwise by our veterinary surgeons.
The 6 month physical medication checks are being postponed only and will need to be rescheduled once this public health crisis is over. Our staff may ask you send in further information and/or photos to assist our veterinary staff in making an assessment. This must be done if requested.
Re-examination and Post Operation Checks for Emergency Procedures:
o After your pets’ initial on-site emergency appointment or procedure, our vets will advise whether an on-site or telephone re-examination is advised.
• Repeat Prescriptions and Food:
o Due to supply and delivery demands on our suppliers, please order your medications in plenty of time. At present there is at least 48-hour delay from order to delivery.
o As per normal practice policy, only a maximum of 3 months of any medication will be dispensed at one time.
o Before you can pick up any repeat medications or food from the practice, you will be asked the 5 public health questions. If you are not able to attend, please pay for the medications over the phone and ask someone else to pick up these medications. If you are in the “at risk” group, please speak to the practice about our home delivery service.
• Flea and Worm Treatments:
o All flea and worm treatments should be ordered over the telephone or via e-mail. As per normal policy, a maximum of 3 months’ supply will be dispensed. To reduce footfall into the practice, these treatments will be posted out 2nd class to your home address. Any larger packaged items will be put into small dispensing packs to enable these to be posted.
o We are not offering our weigh & worm service to puppies and kittens during this time. Please contact the practice where they can advise you on the best course of action.

We realise these are difficult times for all our clients and we hope you understand these measures are unavoidable, if we are to continue to provide you with veterinary services for your pets during this public health crisis.


We realise this is a worrying time for all our clients, and we ask that you help us to reduce the risk to our visitors and the practice so that we can continue to care for your pets.

  • If you or anyone in your immediate family/household are unwell or showing symptoms that could be attributable to the Coronavirus, we respectfully ask you not to visit the practice at the moment. If your pet requires urgent assistance please call us, so we can discuss the best option to take care of them.
  • Please make sure you use the hand sanitisers available when you visit the practice. Frequent hand washing is one of the most effective measures we can all take to protect ourselves and each other.
  • As you are all aware we can get pretty busy at times. In order to reduce any overcrowding please only allow your pet to bring one owner along to their appointment!
  • Should you wish to minimise your time around other people, you can wait in your car, call us from the car park to let us know you are here, we will call you in the practice once the vet is ready to see you.
  • We would like to avoid cash payments wherever possible so please bring you bank card for payment.
  • It is possible we may be able to help your pet without you bringing them in for an appointment. If you are unsure whether a visit is necessary please call us to discuss.

Update 17/3/2020
At yesterdays government update, the Prime Minister set out a number of social distancing measures to reduce the risk of infection from the spread of coronavirus. For those who remain well, are under 70 or do not have an underlying health condition, they are advised to limit their social contact where possible.

To enable us to continue to support you and your pets, whilst doing as much as we can to protect our clients and staff, we are reducing our appointment capacity so we can reduce the numbers of clients within our waiting room at any one time. So that we can continue to see the animals who need to be seen and treated, these cases will be prioritised and there will be less availability for routine vaccinations and health check appointments. We will endeavour to schedule these appointments, but there is likely to be a delay of several weeks for non-urgent routine appointments.
Please call us at the practice should you need to discuss your pet's care and we will continue to keep you updated as things change.

Update 19/3/2020
We have been informed by our normal supplier that due to the impact of Covid-19 on their internal staff and delivery drivers, there is likely to be a delay on deliveries to the practice.
As per our normal policy we need 24 hours for any repeat prescriptions, but we advise all clients to order these in plenty of time, as presently, they will not arrive at the practice until 48 hours after ordering.
Some medications used in human medicine are in short supply and may be unavailable from our normal supplier. Other options such as different suppliers and written prescriptions may be available for certain medications. Please call us at the practice should you need to discuss this.
Due to increased demand on all resources at the moment, we are restricting sales of food and waiting room items to 2 of the same product, to make sure we are able to continue to provide supplies to all our clients.
Due to the possible risk of contamination with cash handling, we are now only taking card payments.
